Command An Army Commands & Formations
Learn when to use Follow, Hold, Attack, Rush and Aim in Command An Army, with formation choices and fixes for scattered or exposed troops.
Reviewed · Independent fan guide
Separate movement from targeting: use Follow to move, Hold for position, Attack for engagement, Rush for a committed advance and Aim for targeting. Then decide whether a defensive formation or a charge formation suits the pressure you can see.
Make two decisions before issuing another order: where the troops should go, and what they should engage. The references below help you separate movement, targeting and formation choices before building a sequence.
What to watch after an order
| Control | Check afterward |
|---|---|
| Follow | Did the group arrive together? |
| Hold | Is this position still useful? |
| Attack | Is the fight happening where intended? |
| Rush | Did the advance leave support behind? |
| Aim | Is the intended target selected? |
Use formations for the position
Community reports show Shield Wall for meeting frontal pressure and Triangle for a concentrated push. Inspect the arrangement and facing you actually get. Reconsider the position when enemies approach from another direction; no numeric formation bonus is established here.

Build a movement and targeting sequence
- Choose a destination
Identify somewhere you can see: an approach, the active point or a regrouping position. You now have a concrete result to check.
- Confirm which troops respond
Make a short move and observe. If only part of the force responds, inspect the current selection and controls before assuming the entire army received the instruction.
- Check the arrangement
At the position, inspect available formations and facing. Ask whether the arrangement helps with the pressure you can see. A familiar formation name is not enough.
- Choose how far to commit
Before an aggressive advance, look at its likely destination and available support. Decide whether that movement serves the objective or simply carries you toward another enemy.
- Reset when the job changes
After the fight or objective moves, pick a fresh destination. Avoid cycling through every control without checking what any one of them did.
Common mistakes
- Moving on without checking the army. Observe its response first.
- Charging whenever an enemy appears. Decide where the advance should end.
- Keeping the same facing throughout a fight. Recheck the direction of pressure.
If you are stuck
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| A control seems unresponsive. | Check the selected group, current control state and path ahead, then try one clear instruction. |
| Troops end up somewhere unhelpful. | Choose a visible destination and assess a short movement before extending the route. |
Questions before you play
Are Attack and Rush interchangeable?
Reported descriptions treat Rush as the more committed advance. Decide whether that extra commitment is useful.
Does Hold provide invulnerability?
It is a position order; continue watching the fight.
Does Triangle increase damage?
No confirmed numeric bonus is established in this reference. Judge its arrangement.
